Lent, just across the river Waal near Nijmegen
All evening in Italy, in Het Witte Huis of Lent
Osteria means inn, and that is what Het Witte Huis has been since 1936. Here you do not pick a single dish, you pick the whole evening. Round after round, always exactly what you feel like, for one fixed price.
This is how we eat here
Round after round, you decide
With us you do not order a starter, a main and a dessert. You order in rounds. The small dishes are medium sized, small enough to taste a bit of everything and big enough to really enjoy.
You start with the antipasti and after that you choose one dish per round, with a contorni on the side if you feel like it. You set the pace and you decide when it is good. You order on the tablet at your table, and one of us is always walking by to think along with you.
-
Welcome, pull up a chair
You get your table and the menu is on the tablet. An allergy or a special wish? Just say so and we will sort it out for you.
-
Round one
You choose from the antipasti, the zuppa or the primi piatti. Bruschetta, carpaccio, homemade tomato soup.
-
And then on you go
One dish per round, plus a side dish if you feel like it. Pizza, pasta, meat, fish. You decide how many rounds it becomes.
-
A sweet finish
Take your time. The kitchen closes at 22.00, desserts can be ordered until 22.30. Tiramisu, cannolo, sgroppino.

For our smallest guests
King Pom keeps an eye on things
King Pom is secretly the boss of Pomodoro. He keeps an eye on whether the pizzas taste good.
Children simply choose from the whole menu. Spaghetti with meatballs, tomato soup, a pizza of their own. And between the rounds there is plenty to enjoy.
- An indoor climbing and clambering paradise with a play area
- At the weekend there is an activity host at the play area
- Game consoles for the slightly older children
- A lounge corner with free wifi for anyone too big for the play area
That way you can sit around the table for a long time, while everyone is having a good time.

Het Witte Huis
Before pasta came to the table here
Het Witte Huis has been standing here far longer than we have. Bernard Bouwmeister, head conductor with the steam tram, built it in 1936 on the road that connects Nijmegen with the north. It was called Het Witte Huis, and three generations of his family ran it.
On 10 May 1940 Het Witte Huis held the command post of the commander of the 8th Border Battalion. Around eight in the evening the order came to withdraw to the Betuwe Line.
Osteria means inn, and that is what Het Witte Huis has been since 1936.
An inn is nothing more than this: a place along the road where you walk in and stay seated.
